At Roby mill, the Modern Foreign Language we study is Spanish. This is studied as many local secondary schools study this in Year 7 enabling our pupils to have some knowledge before they begin in Key Stage 3. It also links with other aspects of our curriculum including Geography.

Although we only begin discrete Spanish lessons in Key Stage 2, our younger children listen to songs and learn simple phrases. In Year 3, we begin to learn vocabulary and then develop this further into sentences and then eventually paragraphs. We speak, read and write Spanish and our mixed aged planning enables us to revisit key learning so it can be embedded.
