PE and Forest School
PE at Roby Mill is delivered by sports specialists from West Lancashire Sports Partnership. Our lessons include a range of games, gymnastics and dance sessions. We also go swimming every year and are fortunate enough to be able to offer these swimming lessons to the whole school.
We have a range of equipment available in school and our children enjoy different games and physical exercise at lunchtime and during after school clubs.
As a school, we recognise the importance of being active and try to encourage physical movement in many lessons, with activities such as Super Movers in Maths and Stand up, Sit down in Spanish. Staff and pupils take part in a daily run and we have an exercise bike, which children love using at break times.
Even though we are a small school, we participate in many sports competitions. Recently, we have taken part in a cycle around the world, triathlons, pentathlons and the swimming gala, where we won many individual medals and became the small school champions. We also have two Sports Councillors who promote sports in our school.
A further outdoor, physical activity we provide is Forest school. We use local woodland area on a biannual basis where we develop our skills outdoor. We make dens and fires, learn about keeping safe outside as well as developing survival skills.
The School Games is a government led programme, launched in 2010.
The School Games programme is underpinned by 6 values, which it aims to instil in young people:– Determination, honesty, passion, respect, self-belief and teamwork.
